About the event:

This artist talk features renowned artist Loukia Alavanou, who will explore her creative practice with a specific focus on the pivotal role of sound design in the moving image. Alavanou will address the unique challenges of narrative construction within Virtual Reality (VR) environments, concluding with a technical demonstration outlining the essential stages of VR film production and post-production.

The event aims to provide students and faculty with a practical and conceptual understanding of VR production by exploring how renowned artists like Loukia Alavanou integrate sound, navigate narrative challenges, and manage the technical workflow of 360-degree filmmaking.

This event is open to the public. While it is primarily designed for students and faculty in Visual Arts, Cinema Studies, and Graphic Design, it also welcomes anyone with an interest in the contemporary visual arts.

About the speaker:

Loukia Alavanou is a Greek moving image artist and filmmaker. Composed of ‘collaged’ fragments from found cinematic sources and her own film sequences, Alavanou’s work explores the influence of film on the formation and structuring of memory. She has exhibited at KANAL Centre Pompidou, Gucci Garden, BOZAR, Palais de Tokyo, Athens Biennale, Moscow Biennale, and Fiorucci Art Trust while her films are part of numerous collections. She is the founder of VRS/Virtual Raw Synergy and a fellow artist at ONX Studio (2021-22). Alavanou was the winner of the 5th DESTE Prize. She represented Greece at the 59th Venice Biennale in 2022 with the work “Oedipus in Search of Colonus.” Loukia Alavanou is the founder of the first VR production company in Greece.
