General Information
1. What is Deree Athletics? (show)
Deree Athletics is the athletics and recreation program of Deree – The American College of Greece. It offers intercollegiate athletics, intramural sports, fitness programs, and recreational activities for the ACG community.
2. Who can participate in Deree Athletics programs? (show)
Athletic programs are primarily available to Deree students. Some recreational programs and community activities may also be open to other members of the ACG community.
3. What are the benefits of participating in athletics at Deree? (show)
Participation provides opportunities for physical fitness, team competition, leadership development, and social engagement, while supporting students’ overall academic and personal development.
4. What programs are available? (show)
Deree offers opportunities for:
- Intercollegiate Athletics (Competitive varsity teams that represent Deree in official leagues and tournaments against other colleges and universities, with regular training, coaching, and scheduled competitions. Sponsored sports are: Men’s & Women’s Basketball and Volleyball, Men’s Soccer, Women’s 5×5 Soccer, Men’s Water Polo, Tennis, Archery, and Cheerleading).
- Intramural Sports (Recreational sports leagues and tournaments organized within the Deree community, allowing students to participate casually, compete with peers, and stay active without the commitment of varsity athletics).
- Outdoor Recreation (Organized activities that take place in natural environments – such as hiking, climbing, or adventure trips – designed to promote physical activity, exploration, and community outside the traditional sports setting).
- Fitness programs (Structured exercise activities such as group classes designed to improve strength, endurance, and overall health for participants of all fitness levels).
Participation & Registration
5. How can students access the athletic facilities, join a program, or participate on a team? (show)
Students must complete the registration process through the myACG portal and upload a medical certificate in order to gain access to athletic facilities and programs. Instructions are available on the Athletics website: https://www.acg.edu/current-students/athletics/.
6. Do students need prior athletic experience to participate? (show)
Intercollegiate teams require tryouts and may require prior experience. Many recreational programs and intramural activities are open to participants of all fitness levels.
7. Are there rules or guidelines for participation? (show)
Yes. Participants must follow the rules and policies outlined in the Deree Athletics Handbook

8. Can students participate in athletics while studying full-time? (show)
Yes. Athletic programs are designed to complement academic schedules and encourage a healthy balance between academics and sports participation.
Athletic Facilities
9. What athletic facilities are available at ACG? (show)
The ACG athletic complex includes:
- An outdoor Olympic-size swimming pool
- A soccer field with synthetic turf
- A six-lane track
- Four tennis courts
- An indoor sports hall for basketball and volleyball
- A fully equipped fitness center
- An outdoor climbing wall
10. Can students use the athletic facilities for recreational purposes? (show)
Yes. After completing registration, students may use the facilities for recreational activities, subject to scheduling and facility regulations.
11. What are the athletic facilities’ operating hours? (show)
Typical operating hours are:
- Monday–Friday: 09:00–22:00
- Saturday–Sunday: 10:00–17:00
Facilities are closed on certain holidays and during the month of August.
12. Do students need an ID to access the facilities? (show)
Yes. Students must present a valid ACG ID card to access the facilities or check out equipment.

13. Does Deree offer athletic scholarships? (show)
Yes. Sport-specific athletic scholarships covering 20% of tuition fees are awarded to promising athletes who are eligible to compete on Deree teams. Scholarships are currently available in the following sports:
Women’s Volleyball – Men’s Basketball – Women’s Basketball – Men’s Soccer – Men’s Water Polo – Cheerleading
14. For how many years are athletic scholarships awarded? (show)
Athletic scholarships are granted for one (1) academic year and may be revoked at any time if a student fails to meet the specified requirements. They are evaluated annually and may be renewed based on continued compliance with scholarship criteria.
15. Are there additional athletic scholarships available for other sports? (show)
Yes. Each academic year, Deree offers up to ten (10) Major Athletic Distinction Scholarships, each covering 20% of tuition fees, to athletes who distinguished themselves in Olympic, World, European, or National competitions during the previous academic year.
Fitness Center & Programs
16. What services are offered at the Deree Fitness Center? (show)
The Fitness Center offers:
- Fitness assessments – Personalized exercise programs – Strength and conditioning training – Group fitness classes
- Pilates Reformer sessions (an additional fee applies)
17. Are group fitness classes available? (show)
Yes. A wide range of group fitness classes is available in Strength & Conditioning, Mind & Body, Cardio Fitness, Core-focused training, and Flexibility, all led by professional instructors.
18. Do fitness classes require registration or payment? (show)
Students must complete the Deree Fitness online registration process as outlined on the website in order to access athletic facilities, programs, and fitness classes. Fitness classes usually operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Participation is generally free unless otherwise indicated.
19. What equipment is available in the Fitness Center? (show)
The Fitness Center includes free weights, strength machines, treadmills, rowing machines, cycling equipment, and other training tools designed for both beginner and advanced athletes.
Sustainability & Community Programs
20. What is the “Griffins Green” initiative? (show)
Griffins Green is a sustainability initiative aimed at reducing the environmental impact of athletics facilities and events through recycling, environmentally responsible practices, and awareness programs.
21. Does Deree Athletics offer programs for the wider community? (show)
Yes. Deree Athletics offers fee-based community programs that provide sports and fitness opportunities beyond the student body. These initiatives serve a wide range of ages and interests. Programs are:
- Deree Fitness for adults
- Youth programs such as the Deree Sports Academy and the Pierce Summer Camp.
