Dr. Gatopoulos has been a part-time member of the Department of Economics since 2017, teaching Microeconomics Principles, Macroeconomics Principles, Economics of the EU and Business in the EU. Between 2010 and 2017, he worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund’s office in Greece. In the context of the largest international bailout program ever implemented, he conducted applied economic analysis on a broad set of issues related to the Greek crisis, including the external and financial sectors and structural reforms. Since 2017, he has been the Head of Macroeconomic and Financial Studies at the Foundation for Economic & Industrial Research (IOBE). He has coordinated policy-relevant, applied research on a wide range of areas of the Greek and European economy. He has published academic work in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of International Money and Finance, CESifo Economic Studies, Fiscal Studies and European Research Studies. His policy-relevant contributions have been published in various collective volumes by the IMF, the European Commission, the OECD, the Bank of Greece, and IOBE.
