Dr. Despina Paiz received her PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from the Department of Psychology at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in collaboration with the Institute of Science and Technology (ISTC–CNR). Her PhD research was supported by the EU Marie Curie Research Training Network: Language and Brain and was focused on reading processing in dyslexic and typically developing readers. Her postdoctoral research at ISTC–CNR focused on unpredictable reading patterns and bilingualism. She also has an MSc in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh. Her research interests include developmental and acquired language disorders, bilingualism, emergent literacy skills, as well as the development of cognitive and linguistic skills in children, the assessment and remediation of learning difficulties, psychoeducational interventions, and inclusion strategies. In addition to her teaching at the Department of Psychology (both graduate and undergraduate modules), she collaborates with schools as an educational consultant, providing assessment of learning difficulties, instructional modification, and inclusion support.
