European Researcher’s Night; PIERCE Students Join over 1 Million People in Celebration

The 10th European Researchers’ Night was organized this year, with more than 300 cities across Europe participating. The event is possibly the biggest celebration of science and research in the EU, attracting over 1 million people every year on September 25. Attendees often have the exclusive opportunity to meet researchers and take part in science activities. The aim is to demonstrate the appeal of research as a career, but also to showcase its extensive societal impact.

Researcher’s Night at the Demokritos Lab

PIERCE students of the B3 high school class, got an incredible tour of the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos”, on September 23, as part of the Night’s preparatory events.

The laboratory infrastructure of “Demokritos” is unique to Greece, equipped with a Nuclear Reactor, a TANDEM Accelerator (which is a miniature version of larger infrastructure such as CERN), and many laboratories with exciting, specialized equipment.

The class was also informed about scientific issues spanning the fields of physics, chemistry and biology. Lastly, they participated in specially designed activities centered on the robots at “Demokritos” resulting in a unique ‘info-taining’ experience.
