Introduction to the Major in Accounting and Finance

The BSc program in Business Administration major Accounting and Finance equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to build and grow in their careers by providing them with a strong theoretical and technical background, strengthen their interpersonal skills and nurture them in an ethical perspective for solving business problems.

The program targets students wishing to pursue professional career in Accounting while also preparing them for graduate study in the areas of Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Business Management.

The program is also appropriate for graduates and professionals looking to enhance and update their quantitative and qualitative skills in financial analysis and cost management and expand their professional horizons either as tax and internal control consultants or financial managers in international or local corporations.


What You Will Study

Courses examine the application of accounting theory and practice and cover the areas of financial reporting and analysis, cost management and performance evaluation, taxation, auditing and forensic accounting as well as those of corporate finance, financial and cost modeling.

In addition, topics that relate to business organization and planning, professional communication, business law and ethics will be studied. Students will also have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real business settings.


Career/Graduate Study Opportunities

Upon graduation, students will have gained a strong understanding of the relevant accounting theory and practice. They will be prepared to advance their academic studies at the graduate level, work as accountants or controllers within the accounting and finance departments of business organizations or become tax advisors, and auditors at a certified level.


This program has received exemption accreditation from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Deree graduates from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2027, who would like to continue their studies and obtain the ACCA professional qualification are entitled to receive exemptions from the following 5 ACCA papers:

  • Business and Technology (BT)
  • Management Accounting (MA)
  • Financial Accounting (FA)
  • Corporate and Business Law (LW)
  • Financial Reporting (FR) (with completion of modules AF3104, AF4207 and AF4323) 

In addition, the program has received exemptions from all Foundations in Accountancy papers
