Handling and Supporting Parents in Developing Appropriate Parenting Skills

During the six sessions, the seminar will provide a context for understanding the necessary qualities and attributes that parents should possess in order to be effective. This seminar will also provide practical skills in order to:

  • Support parents/clients in therapy,
  • Inspire effective parenting skills with the therapeutic triangle method,
  • Handle stressful parenting/family situations.

Who is this course for?

The seminar is addressed to psychologists, social workers and counselors who are currently working (or intend to work) with children and their families, as well as to parents.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will develop a deeper knowledge & understanding of the E.Q. Theory, (Dr. Daniel Goleman) and be able to detect psychological factors that contribute significantly in the manifestation of parental and children psychological traumas and problems. Finally, the participants will learn to prepare treatment/ intervention plans to support the family to resolve the problems in order to plan a better future together.

Gina G. Thanopoulou, is a Counseling, Psycho-Educational Psychologist. Her fields of expertise are in the areas of Developmental Psychology, Risk & Prevention Psychology, female Psychology from HARVARD UNIVERSITY, Graduate School of Education (HGSE) (1994) & EMERSON College (1992) in Counseling Psychology & Theater education.

She is specialized in the “Moral” Development & Counseling of Children & Adolescents, Adults, Family Therapy & Couple Therapy, as well as, in Counseling & Supporting Students with Learning Differences.

Since she came back from the States, in 1995, she maintains her Private Practice as a Counseling / Educational Psychologist to Children, Adolescents, Adults, Parents, Families & Couples

Additionally Ms. Thanopoulou worked for 16 years (1999 – 2015) as the Director of the Center for Counseling & Learning Services of the International School of Athens, (ISA, former TASIS), Before that she worked for 3 years (1995-1998) as a Counseling Psychologist/ Coordinator of the Counseling Center of Pierce College, The American College of Greece.

Additionally Ms. Thanopoulou is a Guest lecturer at the Greek University, Pandeion University (Πάντειο Πανεπιστημειο, Τομέα Ψυχολογίας), a Guest lecturer at various cultural & Educational Institutions in Greece: ΩΝΑΣΕΙΟ Foundation, ΙΔΡΥΜΑ ΘΕΟΧΑΡΆΚΗ, NIARXOS Foundation etc.

She is a Columnist & Collaborator at Huffington Post.GR, since 2015 & at Thrive.global.gr, where shewrites regularly Psychological, Social & Educational articles. She was for 4 years a Scientific Collaborator with her own column at “PSYCHOLOGIES” magazine (Greek edition).

She is a full member of the European, British & Greek Counseling Associations, a “distinguished” member of the Executive Board of the Greek Counseling Association ( EEΣ ) & a member of the American Psychology Association, since 1996 (APA) & the American Counseling Association (ACA).

She is also a full member the Harvard Club of Greece (Greek Alumni Association of Harvard University), since 1998 and she was a member for 14 yrs of the Executive Board as a Vice President & General Secretary of the Club.
