Dr. Pastra is a semantic technologies researcher specialized on cognitive natural language processing, Director of the Cognitive Systems Research Institute. Her PhD explored the computational integration of vision and language within artificial agents engaged in everyday interaction. Since 2005, she is engaged in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of European research and development projects in Artificial Intelligence and in Cognitive Robotics in particular. She has worked on information extraction, text-based image and video indexing and retrieval, embodied language processing and knowledge representation. She has published her research widely in journals including Nature and the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, and has gained sponsorship from Google and other international organizations. She has lectured for four years on Human-Computer Interaction and the use of cognitive and psychological methods in software engineering (University of Sheffield, U.K.) and has given more than 50 invited lectures in international scientific events and in academia in the above research topics.
