About the seminar
In line with the establishment of the Immersive Design Experience for All Lab (IDEA Lab ACG) as a hub for immersive technologies, this summer Workshop is dedicated to Design Thinking and state-of-the-art technologies (VR/AI/AR). This event will introduce participants into the dynamic world of emerging technologies and their connection to Design Thinking. It will demonstrate case studies of student works, ACG projects, and expert-led sessions to explore their vast potential across various domains. From gaming to education and beyond, attendees will get familiar with the transformative power of those immersive technologies.
Led by industry professionals and equipped with state-of-the-art resources, this workshop aims to be an enriching opportunity for the ACG staff/faculty and students to delve into the forefront of the tools of the future and the role of Design Thinking as a backbone for all creative works in emerging technologies.
About design thinking
Design Thinking—albeit not always credited explicitly as a methodological framework in relevant research—has increasingly been applied to immersive technology applications (e.g., in training and simulation, therapy, tourism and cultural heritage, and education), offering a structured yet flexible framework for creating more intuitive and engaging user-centered experiences. With its emphasis on empathy, iterative prototyping, and user feedback, Design Thinking is particularly valuable in the context of emerging technologies like VR, where rapid technological advancements can sometimes outpace user adoption and understanding. By incorporating Design Thinking, designers, developers, and innovators can ensure that these technologies are not only cutting-edge but also accessible, intuitive, and aligned with user expectations. However, despite its potential, there is still limited research on how best to integrate Design Thinking into the development processes for these new technologies, highlighting an area ripe for further exploration and study. This seminar emphasizes the importance and potential of Design Thinking for experts and non-experts alike for a smooth transitioning into the future.
