Mission

Science
To perform high-impact research in various fields of biomedical and environmental sciences, following interdisciplinary approaches, with focus on environmental health, climate change and pollution mitigation, ecosystems and biodiversity, as well as on the identification of novel bioactive compounds for pharmaceutical and environmental applications and the development of novel methodologies to assess genotoxicity and detect cancer. Our goals include the improvement of public health and the promotion of sustainable solutions in a rapidly changing environment.

Mathematics
Research in the Mathematics Area at The American College of Greece (Deree) covers a wide range of topics, spanning across pure mathematics, applied mathematics and their intersection with multiple disciplines. It includes but is not limited to topics such as mathematics education, pure and applied analysis, optimization, mathematical modelling, numerical analysis, computational and theoretical aspects of probability and inferential statistics. The research mission of the Mathematics Area is to establish, advance and apply robust mathematical findings essential to the growth and breakthrough of the aforementioned fields. Furthermore, substantial work is conducted in collaboration with researchers of other disciplines in academia and industry, while findings are disseminated to the wider academic community.

Vision

Science
To establish partnerships with local and external academic entities and eventually become a research hub in novel drug and biomarker design, as well as in environmental health and sustainability.

Mathematics
The vision of the Mathematics Area is to enhance its role in research at an international level, through high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals and proceedings, as well as participation at international conferences and symposia, and to further contribute to the development of the wider mathematical society through interdisciplinary research in a variety of fields, such as mathematics education, scientific computing, machine learning, data analytics, financial modelling, biomedical engineering, mathematical biology, mathematical physics, and cosmology.

People

The Department of Science and Mathematics faculty is committed to advancing interdisciplinary research in biomedical, environmental, and mathematical sciences, fostering innovative solutions to global challenges through collaborative inquiry, methodological development, and the dissemination of knowledge to improve public health, promote sustainability, and drive scientific progress.
