An International Internship with a lasting impact

Some people travel to do business; some, to learn from this world. Some, to do both. Such is the story of Angeliki Mila, who is studying for a Minor in Business at Deree, and interned in India, at Sharda University, thanks to ACG’S International Internship Program.

While at Sharda University she worked at the International Division, designing programs for students, such as internships, volunteering programs, summer courses and student exchanges. Her joy? The impact her work would have on young people which would motivate them to discover what is outside their national boundaries. While initially challenging, she eventually overcame the difficulty of working in another culture, learning the virtues of patience and flexibility.

But not everything should be learnt while at work; according to Angeliki, “Everything is written in academic sources but the meaningful knowledge is mainly learnt by doing”. Travelling was her mode of learning. The amazing sights, the wonderful smells and the people she met cemented this experience in her head.

India’s natural beauty is breathtaking and the peacefulness that belief in religion creates, enabled me to reflect on my life path so far and drive my future accordingly. The colors, the melodies and the meditation through yoga enabled my inner journey and helped me to develop and, what’s more, re-invent myself.”

Such was the significance of the trip for her that she urges other young people to take such opportunities to work and travel, since “If we don’t put ourselves out there, totally out of our comfort zone, we can’t grow, we can’t learn and we definitely can’t become the best version of ourselves.

Most importantly though, in her words, “[…] I realized that I am capable of anything I can dream or pursue. […] If I have to put my whole journey in India is 4 words, they would be Challenge, Adapt, Learn, Grow!”
