The American College of Greece (ACG) is very grateful to GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Greece, for supporting two PIERCE-ACG students Lina Tsaroucha and Theofano Kapetaniou to attend the Global Young Leaders Conference (GYLC), in the US last summer and thanked them at a celebrity event held on the DEREE campus on March 26, where they also got to hear from the students about their invaluable experiences.

GYLC is part of DEREE’s and PIERCE’s Academic Advancement Programs and is a unique leadership development program that brings together outstanding young people from around the world to build critical leadership skills in a global context.

“it was indeed a pleasure to meet with the passionate, bright young students who we supported to attend the GYLC,” said Jenny Tsimiklis, Human Resources Business Leader and Director at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Greece, who accepted a certificate of recognition and thanks during the celebratory event on behalf of GSK from The American College of Greece. “I was also delighted to see how inspired both students became through the conference experience, which I believe helped broaden their vocational horizons and gave them even more drive and determination to become the best they can be!”

On their part, both students thanked GSK and spoke about what they were expecting before they left for the US, their experiences and the impact the conference and networking with their peers had on them.

“GYLC paved our PIERCE students’ path for future success,” says Mary-Irene Triantafillou (DEREE ’89), Executive Director of Development at ACG adding, “through the enriching curriculum of international activities offered, both students had the opportunity to work along and network with other adventurous and accomplished students from across the globe. The students narrated their experiences, the people they met, the place they visited, such as the Holocaust Museum. The impact GYLC has had on them is very evident as they returned inspired, empowered, open to the world and with enhanced confidence and leadership skills. We are grateful to GSK for their commitment to support our youth and tomorrow’s leaders!”

The celebratory event follows the generous donation by GlaxoSmithKline to ACG

GYLC offers students the opportunity to learn from and exchange ideas with some of the world’s top business leaders, policy officials, lobbyists, journalists, diplomats and academics in challenging and dynamic global environments.
