The DEREE College Debating Club would like to thank the Coca-Cola Company for helping The American College of Greece host the Athens Open 2014, an international debating competition in August.

According to the feedback the Club received from the participants of the tournament, it was very successful in terms of competitiveness, enjoyment and socializing.

“Under no circumstance could the tournament have been such a success had it not been for the ACG staff who supported the largest portion of the organization and of course for the donation we received from the Coca-Cola Company – thanks to which we were able to organize a high quality tournament,” says the Club’s President Vassilis Gkoumas.

The Tournament hosted participants from nine countries: Belarus, FYROM, Germany, Greece, Israel, Iran, Poland, the Netherlands and the UK. Twelve teams competed against each other, evaluated by ten adjudicators.

Participants came from the Universities of Oxford, Yale, University College Dublin, Athens University of Economics and Business, University of London Union, University of Warsaw, University of Warwick, Haifa University, and others.

One team from the DEREE Debating club participated in the Tournament and they ranked 6th, missing the final by a small margin (the four best teams qualify for the final). Well done DEREE Team! And congratulations to all the participants!
