Student Academic Support Services (SASS) – now in their second year – are free and open to all current students and alumni who wish to sharpen their academic skills.

Alumni can take advantage of the services offered by SASS for help with anything involving writing or any other academic skill.

“SASS has proven to be a very valuable service for the DEREE community of learners,” says SASS Director and DEREE Sociology Professor Dr Gregory Katsas, adding, “through the structured interactions between recipients and providers, both sides come out winners and an academic community is developing.”

SASS, a merger of the DEREE Writing Center and the Peer Tutoring Center, has assisted more than 1,500 students from all majors and all credit levels.

It provides help through a variety of approaches encouraging participatory learning. These include one-on-one sessions across disciplines, as well as workshops in academic and study skills, all aimed at helping students and alumni improve their skills. The SASS approach is based on best practice models of peer-assisted learning, promoting individual development and responding to the needs of each student.

SASS is located at the JSB Library, main level, Rooms 231-234, tel.: 210 600-9800, Ext: 1273, e-mail: [email protected]. Contact person: SASS Director Dr. Gregory Katsas.
