George E. Triantaris, Vice President for Development & Alumni Relations

George Triantaris joined ACG in February 2010. He graduated from Wesleyan University (CT) in 1986 with a BA degree in biology. He then studied at New York University School of Law, where he received a JD degree in 1990. From 1990 to 1994 he worked as a lawyer in Boston specializing in estate and gift tax planning. In 1995 George entered the development field as Associate Director of Gift Planning and Donor Relations at Bentley University (MA); in 1998 he moved to Northeastern University. Between 1998 and 2006, George held a number of key positions in the Northeastern development organization, including Director of Planned Giving & Associate Director of Development, Director of Principal Gifts & International Development and Interim Senior Vice President of Institutional Advancement, overseeing a development staff of 120. In 2007 George joined Boston University as Director of Planned Giving. From 2008-2010 he served as the Director of Principal and Planned Giving for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, one of the major cultural organizations in the United States.

Mary-Irene Triantafillou, Executive Director of Development

Mary-Irene Triantafillou joined the staff of ACG in 2009. She received her BS in Marketing from DEREE in 1989 and in 1992 she earned her MBA from Chicago’s Loyola University. She is a marketing and strategic development professional with over 20 years of experience primarily in international wine and beverage industries, with a proven track record of accomplishments in international sales, marketing and public relations. In the wine sector she was the youngest person and the first woman to become a member of the board of directors of Wines from Greece, the highest representative body in the Greek wine sector. She has served as a consultant for private companies in Greece and has also been elected to the board of directors of both private companies and non-profit associations. She initiated, organized and led a delegation of women wine entrepreneurs in the first commercial mission of its kind to Osaka and Tokyo in Japan, under the auspices of the Hellenic Foreign Trade  Board. Mary-Irene has served as President of three professional nonprofit associations: the International Associated Women in Wine, the Greek Women of Wine, and the Aegean Wineries. She is Greek-American and married to Nick Pitsakis D ’91. They have two daughters Alkistis-Nicol 16 and Anais 13 who are both students at PIERCE.

Emmanuel (Manos) Varouhas, Executive Director for Alumni & Parent Relations

Mr. Emmanuel (Manos) Varouhas is the Executive Director for Alumni & Parent Relations under the Office of Development & Alumni Relations at The American College of Greece. Among his responsibilities is to develop and implement a strategic plan for the engagement of alumni in the mission and priorities of the College and also to enhance services to alumni. He holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration from DEREE and a Masters of Science degree in Information Management from the University of Sheffield, UK (1992). He is certified as an Associate Computer Professional under the IEEE in the US. He has been a professor in Information Management at the School of Business at DEREE – The American College of Greece since 1994. He has been teaching systems analysis & design and IS security courses at the undergraduate level at DEREE. In his capacity as a teacher, he has been actively involved in curriculum development and review, and in assessment of student learning. He has also served as the chair for the department of Computer Information Systems for four years at DEREE. He has a broad knowledge of the Greek ICT sector and his working experience includes among others information systems analysis, IT and quality consulting for private business firms. In 1997 and for two years he has been an assessor of IT investment plans for the Greek Ministry of Development. In 1999, as an IT specialist for the Greek Ministry of Interior, he conducted a study for the Ministry’s Information Center on the possible impact of the Y2K to major governmental information systems. Among others, he has been an invited speaker in forums on ICT, business and education, including the United Nations Development Program. His research interests are higher education administration and ICT security. He is married to Maria (Mariza) Melliou D ’90. They have two boys Stelios 13 who studies at PIERCE and Apostolos 10.
