Thank you for your continuing feedback and support of the revamped Touch Base – and welcome to the February issue of your official alumni newsletter, helping you stay in touch with former classmates and teachers, stay abreast of exciting events and benefits for you and your family, and stay connected with your Alma Mater, The American College of Greece.

In this issue, read about the Alumni Achievement Awards, where ACG will honor notable PIERCE and DEREE alumni making their mark in their fields and on society – to be held September 12.

Or see how you can grow and diversify your skills through DEREE’s Alumni Career Enhancement Program (ACEP), addressed specifically to DEREE and PIERCE graduates, which allows alumni to pursue a minor in any specialty offered by DEREE, or even design a program that suits their individual learning and career needs in cooperation with a DEREE advisor, and also allows them to take part in internships abroad with ACG’s partners.

Throughout Touch Base, learn about fellow alumni who are on the move, making inroads into their chosen fields, check out job postings and learn about alumni reunions.

Also in this issue, we interview Paris Ayiomamitis, a seasoned journalist now Editor-in-chief of Athens Views, the new English-language newspaper covering events in Greece and around the world, who recounts his years at DEREE and discusses the media market.

We inaugurate a new Alumni Corner section, the place where you can share your news in your own words, which is being launched  with a letter from PIERCE alumna Errika Papadopoulou, a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania.

You’ll also find events near you, such as stops on the DEREE Roadshow in the spring – where you can participate as DEREE makes presentations to prospective students.

Last but not least, did you know that February is not only known for the celebration of Valentine’s Day, but also as African-American History Month – an annual observance in the United States and Canada of the important contribution of the African diaspora?  See the ACG Highlights section to read up on a Presidential Discussion hosted at ACG featuring four presidents of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) who focused on how these institutions have been the agents and architects of America’s democracy.   Also in ACG Highlights, don’t miss the Thanksgiving cliffhanger ALL STAR charity basketball game that pitted the DEREE men’s basketball team against an ALL STAR team consisting of legendary Greek national team basketball players.

Happy reading!
