November 12, 2009 – Alain de Botton, a bestselling author who breaks through the walls between literary genres, presented his new book, The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work (2008),an overview of ten different professions, through which he uncovers the beauty and the beast hiding under the contemporary work environment. The lecture was organized by the Hellenic American Union and Patakis publishers at the Hotel Grande Bretagne. Dr. Haris Vlavianos, who is a professor at Deree College, a poet, and the director of the journal Poiitiki, introduced de Botton. |

The Charmer of Grammos, directed by Vaggelis Efthimiou, stood out among the 66 documentaries at the 3rd Greek documentary festival – Docfest Halkida. The director received the Giorgos Kolozis award introduced this year to honor the memory of the famous Greek documentary director who died suddenly a few weeks before the festival. Full Story |

Pianist Tatianna Papageorgiou, a Deree College professor, and soprano Lina Orfanou, who has performed at Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Opera of New York, gave a summer session recital that blended Jazz and Greek folk music and left students and professors applauding enthusiastically. |
