EU Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos at Deree

Dimitris Avramopoulos, European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship since November 2014, will visit The American College of Greece on Thursday, March 31, to give a presentation on the prevailing issue of the refugee and immigrant crisis.

The Institute of Diplomacy and Global Affairs, in collaboration with the Office of Public Affairs, are honored to host Commissioner Avramopoulos, for a presentation on “The Problems of European Immigration Policy.”

Prior to his current post, Commissioner Avramopoulos served as Minister of National Defense of Greece, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Tourism Development, Minister of Health and Social Solidarity, and as Mayor of Athens. He was an elected Member of the Parliament several times with the “New Democracy” party, and he also served in the Diplomatic Service of Greece from 1980 until 1993. Furthermore, Mr. Avramopoulos was Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Director of the Diplomatic Cabinet of the Greek Prime Minister and Consul of Greece in Liège, and in Geneva.

The presentation will take place on Thursday, March 31, at 13:40 – 15:00 at the JSB Library Upper Level.
