ATHENS, GREECE – May 11, 2015 – The School of Graduate and Professional Education of DEREE-The American College of Greece in collaboration with the Earth Engineering Center (EEC) of Columbia University and the Waste to Energy Research & Technology Council – WTERT Greece/SYNERGIA are organizing an interdisciplinary workshop, focusing on cutting-edge technologies for sustainable waste management and their potential application in Southern Europe and the Middle East.
Dr Efstratios Kalogirou, Vice Chair Global WTERT Council, and eight other experts from the field of waste management from prestigious institutions and key industry insiders will host the five-day (18-22 May) intensive workshop entitled “Advancing State of the Art Sustainable Waste Management in Southern Europe and the Middle East.”

The workshop will evaluate the environmental benefits and impact, as well as the economic viability of: Recycling, composting, mechanical-biological treatment, waste to energy, landfill, and sustainable manufacturing.
On the fifth day, participants will have the unique opportunity to visit the high- tech Mechanical Recycling Facility of Koropi, Athens (including the Gasification Pilot Plant).
The workshop will provide the latest industry knowhow to professionals working in the environmental field throughout the region, or those wishing to expand their activities in the waste management sector. It is also addressed to governmental agencies, policy makers, Municipalities and relative waste management authorities, companies planning and executing waste management projects, and researchers, engineers, university students, as well as anyone wanting to deepen their understanding of the field.
Registrants will receive a Certificate of completing course requirements satisfactorily by the Earth Engineering Center (EEC) of Columbia University. The EEC is recognized by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) for issuing Continuing Education Credits.
