The seminar

The last decade, and especially after the onset of the “Greek crisis” that has led to unprecedented social and financial adversity across ever-growing numbers of people in the country, a strong need for the design and implementation of brief psychosocial interventions focused on specific themes and/or symptoms has emerged. This seminar attempts to respond to this well-delineated and still increasing need.

The integration of this rationale into brief therapeutic modalities of psychodynamic and other orientations will be analyzed and critically discussed, with a strong focus on technique, clinical relevance, and methodological limitations.

The seminar is addressed to all young mental health professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, speech therapists, art therapists, occupational therapists, mental health nurses, etc.) wishing for a concise yet comprehensive introduction into the advantages and limitations of time-limited therapy in the psychodynamic and other orientations.

The curriculum is built around the seamless integration of theory and clinical practice, and will include a series of lectures on theory, technique, and related modifications to that end. In addition, each presentation will be comprehensively illustrated using material drawn from the clinical situation, and will also provide space for a participant to present one of his or her own cases for group discussion under supervision by the instructor.

Participation & Registration

There will be 9 lectures of two hours each in total, to be held at The American College of Greece Plaka Building, 17b Ipitou Street, Plaka, Athens. Registration for the entire lecture series is set at 200 €, or 180 € for ACG Community and Ι.Ψ.Υ.Π.Ε. staff.

Selection of applicants for participation will be based on prior clinical experience and psychotherapeutic expertise, among other criteria. PLEASE NOTE the number of places is limited, and participation will therefore be on a first come, first served basis depending on application date.
