Message from the President
The American College of Greece - Welcome - Message from the President

To many, America's proudest achievement is the nation's distinctive and diverse system of colleges and universities. In the 19th century, motivated by a passionate belief in the transforming power of education, globally conscious Americans sponsored a host of international schools. The institution known today as The American College of Greece (ACG) was founded in 1875 as a school for girls in Asia Minor and relocated to Athens in 1923, at the invitation of Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos. ACG's current mission and setting, combining the best of American education with the intellectual and cultural heritage of Greece, provide a unique foundation for international educational excellence.
ACG encompasses both Pierce College (junior high/gymnasium through high school/lyceum), one of Greece's most distinguished,
co-educational, private schools, and the four academic divisions of the oldest and largest American-style higher education institution in Europe: Junior College (two-year liberal arts and professional degrees); Deree College (four-year liberal arts and professional degrees); Graduate School (master's degrees in business and psychology); School of Continuing and Professional Studies (which offers specialized courses for personal and organizational development). Nearly 5,000 students study in these programs and in one of two ACG locations: a downtown Athens campus and an aesthetically inspiring 60-acre, mountain-side campus (the official training site of the 2004 U.S. Olympic team) in Aghia Paraskevi, a suburb of Athens.
Both Greek and international students benefit from a commitment to quality that has been a trademark throughout ACG's history. The College's academic excellence is complemented by a dedication to making its programs affordable for all those who can meet its admission standards and succeed in its rigorous academic environment. More than 33,000 ACG alumni comprise a family of support that stretches throughout Greece and around the world. ACG graduates have been admitted to a wide range of the most advanced and prestigious academic programs in the United States and Europe and have made notable contributions in virtually every field of human endeavor.
It is a great privilege to serve as president of one of the most impressive American-style, international educational institutions in the world. Whatever your educational perspective - a parent considering the best foundation for your child's future, a young adult seeking to prepare yourself for a life of achievement, an international student wishing to broaden your experience, or a working professional pursuing additional study to advance your career - we look forward to introducing you more fully to all that ACG has to offer to enhance your future and the future of the dynamically changing world around you.
David G. Horner, Ph.D.
