- Is this how an interview really is?

Academics
What is CI and GPA?
The GPA is the Grade Point Average and it is determined for each student at the end of each semester. The Cumulative Index (CI) is the average of all the grades of all semesters of study. Both averages are computed by multiplying the number of credit hours for each course by the quality-point equivalent of the letter grade. The quality points earned for each course are then added and the sum is divided by the total number of credit hours. A perfect CI is 4.0
For example, if a student is registered for 4 three-credit courses in his/her first semester and receives two 'A's a 'B' and a 'C' the CI would be calculated as follows:
Grades* |
|
Credits |
|
Quality
Points |

*Numerical Value of the Letter Grades |

|
CI: 39 / 12 = 3.25 How many courses can I register for?
First year incoming students are on a fixed schedule (F1rst Year Program) and are therefore given a set number of courses depending, among other factors, on their English-language placement. Thereafter, students whose CI is above 2.00 may register for up to 16 credits per semester and up to 7 credits per session. Students whose CI is below 2.00 may register for a maximum of 13 credits (pending on the conditions of their Optimal Match Program). Finally, students who have accumulated a minimum of 30 credits and have a CI of at least 3.00 may register for up to 19 credits per semester but no more than 7 credits per session.

Who is my advisor and how can I contact him/her?
All students have access to an advisor throughout their studies. Actual advisors may change from time to time depending on the student's academic status, number of credits earned, major, and the like. Additionally, all students may make an appointment for consultation with the Academic Advising Office.
What is the College Catalog and can I follow any catalog I want?
The Catalog is the annually published official document of the College. Policies, regulations, academic programs (degree requirements), and description of courses offered are all listed in the catalog. Students are expected to follow the academic programs as described in the catalog issued in the year of their first registration. (However, students must observe all new prerequisites for courses if and when there is a change in the curriculum.) Students have the right to follow entire programs (in terms of course requirements) of a newer catalog but never of a catalog issued in a year prior to the student's first registration. Finally, re-admitted students have to follow academic programs as described in the catalog issued at the time of their re-admission.
What is the F1rst Year program and who qualifies for it?
To help incoming freshmen (and those who transfer up to 12 credits) adjust to their "new" academic environment, the College has developed the F1rst-Year program. In the program's Transition to College part, which lasts for the first semester and first session (or first session and first semester), students are given a fixed schedule of courses and are graded with A, B, P, and W grades only. In the second part, Completion of F1rst Year, which lasts for the students' second semester and session, the program "prescribes" certain courses that students need to complete but allows for some choice as well.
What are prerequisites and/or co-requisites?
Certain courses require prior knowledge of another subject or of the same subject but of a more fundamental basis. Such "knowledge" is guaranteed through prerequisites, i.e., courses that a student must have completed successfully before attempting to register for the course that requires them. Students may not register for any course without having completed all its prerequisites. Prerequisites that may be taken at the same time with the course that requires them are so called co-requisites. Students who withdraw from a co-requisite are automatically removed from the course that requires it.
What is a waiver examination?
Students who feel they have knowledge of a course can take waiver examinations in lieu of required courses. Waiver examinations are only applicable to introductory courses in the areas of: English, Computers, Mathematics, and Foreign Languages. Satisfying the course requirement by examination does not confer any course credit.

How can I ask for an exception to the College's rules & regulations?
Students have the right to petition the Committee on Academic Standards and Policies for exceptional treatment provided they fill out a petition form and submit adequate documentation in support of their request. Depending on the nature of their request, students may need to have their petitions signed by their instructors, their Departments' heads, and/or the Academic Advising Office prior to submitting them to the Academic Advising Office.
Is over-the-limit registration possible?
The College may allow for over-the-limit registration (provided there is actual physical space in a classroom) if, and only if, all of the following conditions are met:
- The student is a graduating senior (current semester/session graduate)
- The course is a major requirement that cannot be substituted
- ALL sections (at ALL times and at ALL campuses) of required courses are closed
- All prerequisites have been met
- The student is in good academic standing (minimum CI of 2.00)
- The student does NOT register late
What do I need to get a distinction?
3.30-3.49-> Distinction
3.50-3.79-> High Distinction
3.80-4.00-> Highest Distinction
If you are a transfer student, you need to have completed at least 85 of your required credits at Deree to qualify for any of the above levels of distinction.
As a working student, will I be able to find a full schedule of courses at the times I am available?
The College recognizes that many students have commitments at the workplace, which they need to meet. Within the constraints of its resources, the College tries to accommodate student needs by scheduling classes from 8:00 to 22:00, five days a week, in three separate locations in Athens. However, the College cannot make extraordinary concessions for situations that are beyond its control (such as the Athens traffic, the student's work schedule, or any other obligations). Therefore, students who need to work should think carefully about the demands on their time and consider taking fewer classes per term and/or planning to graduate in five or more years.
